Why Use Organic Cosmetics
You may be curious as to whether organic cosmetics are as good or better than the products with the most modern chemicals advertised by the large cosmetic companies. You may ask yourself, “Why Should I Use Organic Cosmetics?” Perhaps you have been cautious in trying organic cosmetics, but they may be the perfect choice for you. Many women are gradually moving over to the organic products because of the sensitivity of their skin. They realize that natural cosmetics must be better for your skin.Organic cosmetic companies usually avoid products that are tested on animals.
Why We Are Exposed to Chemical Toxins
Every day we are exposed to chemicals and toxins from our environment and the products we use on our skin. Our skin is our largest organ so how we treat it and what we put on our skin is very important. The products are absorbed into our skin and many stay in our tissue making us susceptible to illness. Most cosmetic companies still include the ingredients of paragons, mineral oil and lanolin, which can be irritating to our skin and are not natural or organic. These ingredients often cause irritation and redness. Some of the ingredients can also compromise our immune system.
How to Find Organic Products
There are several ways to look for organic cosmetics although it can be confusing. There are two websites that review the cosmetic ingredient. The site egw.org/skindeep rates the cosmetics and another is a toolbar to rate products ingredients: toolbar.goodguide.com. The other resource to find new organic cosmetics is TheseAreGreat.com. This offers reviews on great organic cosmetic products from around the world. New Brands are developed daily and need to be brought to the attention of the buyers. It is an independent site that reviews and writes about a variety of products that have natural ingredients and many that are certified organic. It is often difficult to find organic products and be sure that they stand up to the claims. No matter what product you choose we want you to be sure you find what is right for you and has the green stamp of approval.
Cruelty Free Products
Most companies that care about organic skin care are also principally plant-based as well. They are committed to use an exclusively cruelty-free operation of business. In these companies, there is no animal testing done in any of the production process.
The Difference Between Natural and Organic Skin Care Products
Natural Skin care products may not have the same organic certification as certified organic products. Labeling is important to all of these products and it is essential that you read the label to be sure you are satisfied with the level of organic certification you want. Each country has unique levels of qualifications.

Really enjoyed your post on natural makeup. It’s a pity that more women don’t choose natural makeup and cosmetics because there is so much choice now and good quality as well. Since I’ve been using natural cosmetics I’ve noticed that I’ve much less skin problems and therefore need to use less creams and moisturizers – so I’m actually saving money.
We agree. Thank you for the comment!
Great post! I visit the Environmental Working Group (www.ewg.org/skindeep/) website frequently. It’s a great resources for those looking to stay informed about the ingredients in products that they use, or just educate themselves on safer ways to maintain their beauty.
The Environmental Working Group (www.org/skindeep?) is a wonderful resource. We are glad you are enjoying it.
can you recommend any resources where i can find out which cosmetic companies test on animals and which don’t? i don’t want my money going to support such shameful practices.
Yes, There is a site, http://www.leapingbunny.org that has information on what companies and brands do not use animal testing. Have a look at it!
